Our Village is Strong Series: 5 Strategies to Free the Anxious Generation

Join Dr. Fisher for a special Blaine Community Connect session as we discuss how to support our anxious kids (and selves!) and explore a compelling summary article based on the book The Anxious Generation & Dr. Becky's work.

Elementary Curriculum Night

Elementary Curriculum Night

The evening begins in the cafeteria, where Mr. Gray and Dr. Fisher will provide a general overview about the elementary experience at Catharine Blaine. Families will then go to their child’s class (or classes), where teachers will have information available about daily schedules, what students will learn this year, class workload, and any events or outings that will happen during the year. Teachers will also have sign-up information for November conferences available. Students are encouraged to attend with their family. Classroom teachers might provide additional information about curriculum night in their regular messages to families.

Middle School Curriculum Night

The evening begins in the cafeteria, where Mr. Gray and Dr. Fisher will provide a general overview about the middle school experience at Catharine Blaine. Families will then ‘attend’ each of their child’s classes for ten minutes each. In these class sessions, teachers will provide an overview of the curriculum, class workload, and grading. Students will fill in a schedule for their families to follow for the evening, but students don’t attend curriculum night. The schedule for the evening doesn’t include time for individual conversations with teachers – if you ever have a question or concern, contacting a teacher by e-mail is the best way to get in touch.

Playground Painting

Playground Painting

WHAT:

Catharine Blaine Playground Painting

  • What will we be painting/repainting:

    • Tiger Tracks (paw prints) that need it

    • Outlines of basketball courts, baseball circle, 4-square, tether ball, state map, etc.

WHEN:

  • Saturday, August 31, 9:30 until approximately 2:30.

  • No, you don’t need to be there the whole time, we will take you for however long you may be available to help.

HOW MANY FOLKS DO YOU NEED AND CAN I BRING MY FAMILY?

  • Based on previous experience I always like to have at least between 10-14 adults on site and then of course kids helping put too.  But if possible I like having enough adults to help supervise and keep us on task.

  • By all means, this is a family affair so feel free to bring your kiddos down if you want as well.

  • It’s a great opportunity for them to get involved and to see their handiwork firsthand.

    • That said, if you are bringing younger children with you, or let's say kids who maybe can’t work independently, please be prepared to supervise them. In other words, be present to help them, make sure they are being as neat as possible with lines, keeping paint within boundaries, or for example, making sure they are not getting paint splashed or dripped on other parts of the playground and asphalt that would then require a repaint of the repaint!  Just speaking from experience!

CAN MY TEEN GET COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS?

  • You bet.  Happy to sign off on that.

DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING BESIDES MYSELF?

  • From the “supplies” side of the house, nope.  I will have everything ready to roll.

  • I would however bring some water to stay hydrated.

  • Of course feel free to bring a pair of gloves, or if you have a favorite paintbrush, etc., but again I’ll have all the supplies ready.

  • Obviously wear clothes that you don't mind maybe getting some paint on.

IF I HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE EVENT, WHO SHOULD I REACH OUT TO?

  • Please reach out to Kevin Jeffries, PTA Facilities, kevinjeffries@windermere.com

  • As always none of this happens without YOU.  THANK YOU!
