Frequently Asked Questions

PTAs began as advocacy groups, but with reduced funding for public schools, fundraising has become vital. Blaine PTA supports our school by organizing events, running programs, advocating, providing supplies, books, and even staff support. Together, we empower our kids and community!
-
The PTA is made up of an elected group of officers who selects board members to help run the org, but the PTA is really all of you—our members. Members vote on issues affecting our whole school.

Blaine PTA aims for three large fundraisers each school year—a giving campaign in the fall, an auction in the spring, and a move-a-thon in May. Additionally, PTA may fundraise at PTA-hosted events by offering a bake sale or selling tickets to the event. Outside of the PTA, each class will need to plan to cover big field trips or activities, most commonly the 5th grade classes go to Islandwood and the 8th grade classes goes to Orkila. Those camps and the transportation necessary to get there and back cost money. Parents can elect to pay those expenses out of pocket or plan fundraisers to raise money—beginning as early as Kindergarten.

Blaine K-8 is a public school. Blaine is a boundary school for K-5 and a choice school for grades 6-8. If you live in the Blaine boundary, your child will be assigned to Blaine if they are in Kindergarten through 5th grade.
If your child is in grade 6-8 and your child attended Blaine for 5th grade, your child will have a seat at Blaine for middle school. If your child did not attend Blaine for 5th grade, your child will be assigned to your boundary middle school and you will have to complete school choice forms through Seattle Public School to be considered for Blaine even if you live near Blaine.
Elementary school students in Magnolia are assigned to McClure for middle school and even if your child attends Blaine for 5th grade, they will have a seat at McClure should you not want to attend Blaine for middle school.

As of 2022, there are two classes in each grade, from Kindergarten all the way through 8th. Enrollment can change from year-to-year.

K-8s are great, just ask our principal Mr. Gray!
K-8s keep middle schoolers younger for longer (in a good way), and there are opportunities for older kids to mentor younger kids in Blaine’s buddy program.
Middle Schoolers generally stay on one side of the building, switching classes for different periods. K-5 generally stay on the other side of the building.
It is not uncommon to see middle schoolers high five the younger kids during the off-chance they encounter each other in the hallways.

In the morning, students line up with their class and teacher on the playground, then head inside around 8:45 AM. Parents and caregivers are not allowed on the playground for drop-off.
For pickup, parents and caregivers may come on the playground and students are released onto the playground. Pickup is 3:25PM except for Wednesdays. Wednesday’s early release is 2:10 PM unless otherwise noted.
For the first trimester, Kindergarteners are released 15 minutes early as they get used to the process.
